Helping Bloomberg understand ‘stupid’

Helping Bloomberg understand ‘stupid’ (2012-11-01).  Oh Anthony! To understand stupid all one has to do is visit your little weblog. It’s the distilled essence of same.

For the thousandth time Anthony Watts hauls out the assertion that weather has nothing to do with climate. Think about that for a minute… But when business magazines like Bloomberg Businessweek start calling denial of Global Warming “stupid” you know the penny is finally dropping. So much for Anthony’s pleasure over the absence of climate issues in the current Presidential campaign.

Communist rag Bloomberg Businessweek’s Nov. 1st cover, addressing A. Watts personally.

Anthony’s expert climate refutation? “Hurricane Expert” political economist Roger Pielke Jr. and infamous climate liar Steve Goddard. ‘Nuff said.

P.S. Anthony: If you’re gonna fake up a passive-aggressive mock magazine cover figure out line formatting or you’ll just come across as grade-school.

Getting ready for more global warming: Heathrow airport triples snow clearance fleet

Getting ready for more global warming: Heathrow airport triples snow clearance fleet (2011-09-29). Anthony Watts drags out the hoary old “Snow! Somewhere!” post, this time trying to suggest that “snowier” weather in Britain means “colder” weather everywhere. Thus disproving Global Warming. Again. After-all the BBC tells us so!

Don’t believe the lyin’ BBC when they also report that “the average [UK] first flowering date has been earlier in the last 25 years than in any other period” or that “UK plants are flowering for a second time this year because of the unseasonably warm weather.”

I’m commenting this time because these kinds of posts are like an idiot’s meaningless drool and Anthony is just… so… dribbly.

Forget that regional weather is not an indicator of global climate. Forget that even the regional trend is actually a warming one. Forget that global warming is leading to higher atmospheric moisture levels and that warmer winter air is what produces snow. Forget that Heathrow airport might be investing in snow-removal equipment for business reasons unrelated to climate. Hell, forget that weather is not climate! (That’s kind of mandatory in Anthony’s bizzaro world.)

Just bob your head along to Anthony’s tuneless melody.

In the comments we see that the presence of winter boots in UK shops is proof that Global Warming isn’t happening, as well as wide agreement that the UK Met Office, like all government agencies, is corrupt and incompetent. I also love the always-pompous Smokey’s confusion over the failure of the UK December trend to match the global December trend. Clearly someone hasn’t faked the data carefully enough.

Another tornado outbreak expected

Another tornado outbreak expected“ (May 25th, 2011). Extreme weather events have nothing to do with climate change, right Anthony Watts? Well, maybe not individual events, but 2011 has been a bit… unusual. Anthony blandly natters on about tornado ratings and historical examples. More people have died in past extreme tornadoes. Nothing to see here folks, move along!

April tornado frequency. Not a hockey stick! From Open Mind.

I guess “the deadliest single tornado to strike the U.S. since modern tornado recordkeeping began in 1950″ last Sunday in Joplin, Mo. is just an example of howpeople will “adapt” to (hell, embrace) warmer climates. 116 dead and counting. The dogmatic denialist rejection of risk and refusal to take responsibility for their obstructionism is why I work to expose their dishonesty and amorality.

The Met Office Bullhockey

The Met Office Bullhockey. Anthony Watts joins the Met Office criticism that is suddenly, but purely by chance, reappearing across the denialist blogosphere. Anthony says (I think he’s talking about the Met Office, not the denialist assault):

The spin you are about to witness is Maytag quality spin. It is shameless, stupid, and beyond anything I’ve ever seen.  Both James Delingpole and Autonomous Mind take the Met Office out for a spin cycle that ends up in a full stop. The propaganda is shameless, the smell odious, and the public relations disaster is even worse than before. They apparently just don’t know when to stop talking.

So what are the charges? Apparently the Met Office was incompetent because they were making long-term predictions, and now they’re incompetent because they’re not making long-term predictions. Their long-term predictions were bad because they were wrong, but now they’re bad because they are right. Pavlovian conservative pundit James Delingpole at the Telegraph says so, and he’s alway on the up-and-up.

You know what this means, don’t you? There’s a conspiracy afoot! Can’t win for losing…

California’s remarkable December weather

California’s remarkable December weather. Anthony Watts directly observes cold weather, thus proving that Global Warming is a fraud.

Anthony quotes a meteorologist friend (certified, unlike Anthony), but I don’t think he realized the admission he let slip though:

On a number of fronts, the December weather across California was quite remarkable.  Not only was it very wet (duh!), but temperatures were generally quite mild.

I thought all snow anywhere meant record Global Warming-disproving cold?

It’s such a cold December: 2010 ends on a chilly note where people live

It’s such a cold December: 2010 ends on a chilly note where people live. Another Guest Post for Anthony Watts, by Ryan Maue, once again proving that there is no Global Warming. Did you know that December 2010 was cold in some places? It’s the final nail in the coffin the Global Warming myth!

However Ryan’s not going to talk about the inconvenient fact that the full year was actually rather hot until the “government temperature keepers” release their analyses. Nice side-stepping!

Instead we get a simplistic series of excuses:

  1. Mutterings about weather fluctuations.
  2. Invocation of “regional variation”.
  3. Casual dismissal of the places where there happens to be the most warmth (Ryan actually says, with an apparently straight face, that “You’ll hear a lot about the historically warm Arctic, but who cares at this point, no one lives there and it is still plenty cold.”).
  4. Allusions to governmental conspiracies (“It’s a foregone conclusion that the official government data from whatever nation or agency will show that 2010 was the hottest year ever.  It just has to be that way“).
  5. An attempt to minimize the factual record 2010 temperature by suggesting that it’s only slightly record-breaking.

So for Global Warming to be true the evidence has to be homogenous, continuous, and in large steps? How scientific.

December cold – unprecedented?

December cold – unprecedented? It’s cold! Somewhere (Ireland)! Thus proving Global Cooling! Water mains are freezing in Northern Ireland!

Thanks for the weather report, Verity Jones, but I have to ask; is the temperature record from just one weather station, on an island affected by the Gulf Stream, a useful proxy for Europe? That’s cherry-picking, isn’t it?

Also won’t any single location have more variability than the average of a larger set of locations? Isn’t that the whole point of global data gathering?

I have to wonder if the theory that a warmer Arctic can lead to a colder western Europe has again turned denialists into converts of the “it’s just extreme weather” argument. From the article:

As for this being caused by global warming – bull – it was just an extreme weather event. They happen. Go back >100 years and they happened then too.
