Department of Homeland Security goes off the deep end – now plans to battle “climate change” in addition to terrorists. You see, for Anthony Watts “security” is just about looking for bombs and patting people down. And scowling at Muslims. It’s definitely not about ensuring safety. Because for example sea-level rise, which isn’t happening, has no implication for places like New Orleans.

The far-ranging Anthony just happened across a right-wing news website, which is “like the National Public Radio and the Public Broadcasting System” except funded by conservative think tanks, and he encountered the worrying news that the Department of Homeland Security is studying how Global Warming will impact their services. Wow, that’s truly ominous.

Is the Department of Homeland Security’s FEMA division (that’s “Federal Emergency Management Agency” by the way) preparing the ground for a religious war of “climatic jihad”, which of course means oppressive government action? Anthony says yes and reminds us that snow has fallen, which proves that there is no Global warming.

“A bill for climate data integrity: The Public Access to Historical Records Act“. Anthony Watts tries his hand at oppressive legislation, having “a small hand” in Republican Senator David Vitter’s Public Access to Historical Records Act. Ooh, the irony!

Senator Vitter is a creationist Tea Party supporter who “received forgiveness from God” for patronizing the “D.C. Madam” (and probably the “Canal Street Madam“). With Anthony’s help he is trying to introduce a bill hoping to show that NASA is manipulating temperature records.

American taxpayers are apparently being forced to spend billions, each year, on climate change research! Gosh that sounds awful, in an unspecific way.

NASA’s temperature records must be open to public scrutiny! Um, NASA has never collected historical temperature records, the NCDC however does collect it. NASA uses the NCDC’s data, their processed data is here.

These historical temperature records must be protected from political agendas! Amen to that, although I don’t trust Vitter to define it honestly.

So Anthony helped write a bill designed to give political appointees authority over the official US temperature record and to force scientists to use only that dataset? Anthony suddenly loves Gubmint and legislated truth! Has Obama the Nigerian crypto-communist got to him? What happened to the independent skeptic we all loved?

Why am I surprised that Anthony would be proudly involved in something so ill-conceived?

Anthony Watts thinks a dumb political remark by the “skeptical” Dr. Roy Spencer, in Cancun on a political mission for a lobbying group (CFACT), is worth noting. Does Dr. Spencer really think that the possible secret presence of Al Gore is triggering a cold spell in Cancun?

I thought that “skeptics” were adamant that scientists should keep out of politics, but apparently the goose and the gander get different sauces after-all.

CFACT’s “Kook of the week” at Cancun. Christopher Monckton actually thinks that there was someone at the UN’s Cancun climate conference that was a bigger kook than him! And Anthony Watts agrees with him!

So old bug-eyes thinks its clever to bushwhack a random un-prepared attendee and record his off-the-cuff remarks for later dissection? I guess he has to stack the deck pretty hard if he wants to look good in comparison…

So Anthony… where’s the science here? This is desperate political dirty tricks, and you’re all for it.

Monckton was down at the Cancun conference, “making himself available” to anyone needing enlightenment. It’s all about the Left trying to trick everyone into giving a totalitarian atheist World Government control of everything, don’t you know? They’re all kooks too. End of story.

Actually, his post is quite entertaining. I encourage you to read it, but avoid hot drinks while doing so because it’s not the intellectual “missile” Anthony’s readers claim…

Strangely, the only scientists they mention are Roy Spencer and Richard Lindzen, both deeply compromised denialists. The rest of the post is a careful selection of “news” that blindly promotes denialist interests. Oh, and the Cancun climate conference is going to be such a failure.

I guess this is the price of getting your high school projects so neatly bound Anthony.

Thus proving that Global Warming is a left-wing plot, and isn’t happening.

The Republican letter even has the balls to say “We simply cannot afford any massive spending programs with such debt owed by America’s future generations” while in other committees they are protecting unaffordable tax cuts for the wealthy. Get the orders of magnitude right if you don’t want to look like hypocrites, Senators Inhofe, Vitter,Voinovich and Barrasso.
