It’s the blob (anomaly)!

It’s the blob (anomaly)!“. After years of touting regional variations as proof that Global Warming isn’t happening (or is natural, or is temporary, or is really cooling, or whatever other line of patter suits the moment), Anthony Watts has decided he likes picking on anomalous regions. (This seems to actually be an uncredited repost of a blog post by Roger Pielke Sr.)

Suddenly, if it's not happening everywhere it isn't happening anywhere. Someone's changed their tune.

I suppose you’ve gotta say something when even Roy Spencer and John Christy have to report that February 2010 was the 2nd warmest February in 32 years

Devastating non-trends in US Climate

Devastating non-trends in US Climate“. The US government is lying to us when the Interagency Climate Change Adaptation Task Force says “Climate change is already having “pervasive, wide-ranging” effects“.

Anthony Watts knows this. So he presents Warren Meyer’s careful selection of trivial regional charts stripped of meaningful analysis and intended to convince suggestible eyeballs as a counter.

Of course the only link Anthony provides is some news coverage of the report, where his ditto-heads can flood the comments.

Popular Science archive made public – your chance to help me find something important

Popular Science archive made public – your chance to help me find something important“. Anthony Watts is “getting his Jones on” about old magazines. They’re going to prove the Global Warming is wrong! Somehow it revolves around a sled named “Rosebud“. Oops, we mean some old nuclear energy advertisement.

Scandal brewing in the Euro carbon credits market

Scandal brewing in the Euro carbon credits market“. If there’s one thing you can count on, it’s greedy people gaming any system for personal profit at the expense of others. Damn those ‘capitalists’! It looks like individual carbon permits are sometimes being sold to more than one buyer. Prices and volumes have plummeted in the aftermath.

This is standard financial fraud, but to Anthony it means that the carbon credit system is a failure. He also doesn’t like three of the 18 members of the Chicago Climate Exchange.

Weather balloon data backs up missing decline found in old magazine

Weather balloon data backs up missing decline found in old magazine“. Anthony Watts really latched onto that 1976 National Geographic illustration! Here are some fresh accusations of “funny business” based on weather balloon data.

Weather balloon data is something that, shockingly, climate scientists evidently never considered. Not. We’ll let this meme run for a bit and try to remember to come back with an update on the conclusion.

Mister Mean Green

Mister Mean Green“. People who buy “green” products are less ethical, says Anthony Watts. Because a psychology study at the University of Toronto says so (PDF here). This is Anthony’s chance to infer that environmental bloggers and “warmers” are similarly unethical.

Another press release that Anthony didn’t look past. This is about consumer behavior.

Medieval Warm Period seen in western USA tree ring fire scars

Medieval Warm Period seen in western USA tree ring fire scars“. Anthony Watts darkly hints that “despite what some would like you to believe, the MWP was not a regional ‘non event’.” Then he copy-and-pastes a University of Arizona news release about how Giant Sequoias reveal fire histories in the Sierra Nevada. (I’ll try to ignore his reflexive figure comparing the global “Mann/IPCC” temperature history to the European “historical” temperature history.)

This is not a climate paper, it’s about historical fire frequencies and even implicitly recognizes the progression of global warming. You can read Multi-Millennial Fire History of the Giant Forest, Sequoia National Park, California, USA (Swetnam, et. al, 2009) at the Fire Ecology journal web site (abstract or PDF). Anthony didn’t.

Can someone point out the Medieval Warm Period?

Another UHI effect – thunderstorms & lightning

Another UHI effect – thunderstorms & lightning“. Anthony Watts copies-and-pastes a Weatherwise magazine article that discusses the Urban Heat Island effect in the context of thunderstorms. It’s real! Thunderstorm formation downwind from cities proves it!

Actually, as we have repeatedly noted here, the Urban Heat Island effect is well-known. It is not disputed. It has simply been rejected on the evidence as a factor in the surface temperature record of global warming. Sorry Anthony.

IPCC’s Pachauri swarmed by reporters – refuses to step down

IPCC’s Pachauri swarmed by reporters – refuses to step down“. IPCC Chairman Dr. Pachauri makes the Indian TV news! Thanks Anthony.

Funny how we never read things like “IPCC Chairman receives standing ovation at conference” on Anthony’s blog. I sure it happens, but… it never seems to make the editorial cut.
