Monckton’s Mexican Missive #3

Monckton’s Mexican Missive #3. Anthony Watts offers more profound insights from the comical Lord Monckton. The UN’s Cancun climate conference is the beginning of a World Government, probably communist, eager to create vast un-answerable bureaucracies! Etc, etc, etc.

Wait, I thought that the crypto-communist climatologists that are conspiring to rule the world received a mortal setback in Copenhagen. Ooh, this wild speculation thing is tricky.

A bill for climate data integrity: The Public Access to Historical Records Act

A bill for climate data integrity: The Public Access to Historical Records Act“. Anthony Watts tries his hand at oppressive legislation, having “a small hand” in Republican Senator David Vitter’s Public Access to Historical Records Act. Ooh, the irony!

Senator Vitter is a creationist Tea Party supporter who “received forgiveness from God” for patronizing the “D.C. Madam” (and probably the “Canal Street Madam“). With Anthony’s help he is trying to introduce a bill hoping to show that NASA is manipulating temperature records.

American taxpayers are apparently being forced to spend billions, each year, on climate change research! Gosh that sounds awful, in an unspecific way.

NASA’s temperature records must be open to public scrutiny! Um, NASA has never collected historical temperature records, the NCDC however does collect it. NASA uses the NCDC’s data, their processed data is here.

These historical temperature records must be protected from political agendas! Amen to that, although I don’t trust Vitter to define it honestly.

So Anthony helped write a bill designed to give political appointees authority over the official US temperature record and to force scientists to use only that dataset? Anthony suddenly loves Gubmint and legislated truth! Has Obama the Nigerian crypto-communist got to him? What happened to the independent skeptic we all loved?

Why am I surprised that Anthony would be proudly involved in something so ill-conceived?

Monckton’s Mexican Missive #2

Monckton’s Mexican Missive #2“. Denialist blowhard Lord Monckton, rattling around the UN climate conference in Cancun waiting for supplicants to seek out his guidance, provides another rambling “report” about how everyone at the Conference is stupid. And evil. And mean. And blindly “religious.” And demoralized. And conspiring. The list seems endless. Anthony Watts gives it all his seal of approval.

And yet this unsupported repetition of a wide list of debunked denialist claims and allegations of conspiracy, along with a random political broadsides and references to his dinner menu, are all we get from the leading “intellectual” of the denialist movement… What a train-wreck.

Monckton reaches his pinnacle of cleverness when he encourages people to call the “wicked” IPCC the “ipecac”. Oh, if we use the name of syrup of ipecac instead of their real name no one will take them seriously! They’ll just think of throwing up! Oh you are by far the cleverest guy in Grade Three and your readers are, tellingly, quivering with delight.

News bites: The Green Energy Collapse

News bites: The Green Energy Collapse. Anthony Watts helpfully re=posts the denialist Global Warming Policy Foundation’s curiously one-sided summary of climate “news”, starting with Canada’s own denialist retread Lawrence Solomon.

Apparently government policies aren’t always perfect. Therefore there is no Global Warming. And the UN’s climate conference in Cancun is going to be a failure (it wasn’t).

Poor Anthony. Struggling to claim the mantle of “skeptic” and yet so unskeptical…

More on the Wikileaks Climate Cables

More on the Wikileaks Climate Cables“. Are Wikileaks the new Climategate? “Ecotretas” has been combing through them for climate-related communications.

Guess what? It seems that politicians are arguing and maneuvering about policy and international agreements! These revelations have exploded my mind.

This will be as irrelevant and repetitive as Anthony Watts’ idiotic reports of snow in winter.

“Sahara Solar Breeders” don’t sand a chance

“Sahara Solar Breeders” don’t sand a chance. You can count on Anthony Watts’ readers going ballistic about anything that requires large-scale government involvement. That’s their stereotypical obsession. So this paper about a globally distributed solar energy concept in the Sahara is perfect bone to throw to them.

Anthony starts the nay-saying snark about the project, working mostly from a copy-and-paste of a report in the New Scientist, and the curmudgeonly “experts” take over in the comments.

From the New Scientist article:

The Sahara Solar Breeder Project is a joint initiative by universities in Japan and Algeria that aims to build enough solar power stations by 2050 to supply 50 per cent of the energy used by humanity.

The Sahara Solar Breeder concept, in info-graphic form... From YouTube.

Frankly I have no opinion on the feasibility of this concept. So I’ll keep my mouth shut until more knowledgable people assess it.

Breaking: Japan refuses to extend Kyoto treaty at Cancun

Breaking: Japan refuses to extend Kyoto treaty at Cancun“. Japan, one of the largest emitters of greenhouse gases refuses to cut their emissions. Why should they when their trading partner the USA is entering years of Republican obstruction? Make money now, let future generations look after themselves!

Anthony Watts is right that this important, but not for the partisan reasons he is focused on.

A Fertilizer Trading Market?

A Fertilizer Trading Market?” Anthony Watts uses a University of Maryland report on agricultural practices to smear the failed Chicago Climate Exchange and mutter about governments trying to control the lives of Americans.

From the Multiple Ecosystem Markets in Maryland report:

The researchers conclude that setting up a “trading market,” where farmers earn financial incentives for investing in eco-friendly techniques, would result in a double environmental benefit – reducing fertilizer run-off destined for the Chesapeake Bay, while at the same time capturing carbon dioxide headed for the atmosphere.

Of course howling “bullshit” is the closest Anthony comes to critical thought, so it must be hard for him to resist.

During Cancun COP16 – calls for a return to WWII style rationing

During Cancun COP16 – calls for a return to WWII style rationing“. Anthony Watts loves to suggest that climate scientists want to install a World Government, tell Americans what to do, and make them live in caves. He finds an article in the Telegraph that lets him take this idea out for another ride around the block. Scientists want to start rationing! And Al Gore will be on the gas vouchers! Or something.

Hmmm. Dr. Kevin Anderson wrote an article in a special report by the Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society that discusses the ineffectiveness of current Global Warming mitigation efforts, and the options for improving mitigation efforts.

From a mitigation perspective, the gap between the scientific and policy understanding of the challenge needs urgently to be addressed.

Where’s the “rationing”?

Shackling national security – and renewable energy

Shackling national security – and renewable energy. Because conservationists didn’t enthusiastically embrace consuming mineral resources as fast as possible, talking about their strategic value now is in Anthony Watts’ view hypocritical.

Just read Center for the Defense of Free Enterprise lobbyist Paul Driessen’s guest post. All you need to do is vote Republican and the problem is solved. No more energy technologies using up rare earth minerals that we need for military purposes, just drill, baby, drill!  America will once again be strong and free!

Oh, and by the way, oil is magically created deep in the Earth now, so don’t worry ’bout dat any more neither. (Boy, do the commenters love that idea!)
